06 Jun 2019

Liverpool-based PIN IoT have been announced as the May monthly winner of the 2019 Merseyside Innovation Awards (MIA).

The team at PIN IoT have developed a unique solution that uses new wireless technology to track waste containers at very low cost. The solution targets a widespread market problem and has the potential to save the UK Waste industry billions of pounds each year.

The MIA’s aim to help companies transform their ideas into successful businesses, contributing towards Merseyside’s economic development. Since 1996, the awards celebrate and encourage innovative companies and individuals in Merseyside.

MIA sponsors recognised PIN IoT’s pioneering solution targeting an unresolved global problem. The solution works via tracking devices that attach to containers, and proprietary software that delivers insight and a strong return on investment for customers by eliminating loss and theft and improving the commercial utilisation of the fleet.

PIN IoT’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer Paul Byrne, commented: “We intend to become the next Merseyside-based business success story. The technology to track waste containers has never before been viable, leading to large-scale inefficiencies and the cloud-based solution delivers real-time visibility at low cost.

“Based at Sensor City we plan to build a business of global significance from the region, creating large scale employment and development opportunities, whilst supporting the efforts of regional stakeholders to establish Liverpool as a recognised centre of excellence in the development of sensor and Internet of Things technology.”

Brian McCann, MIA Chairman, added: “Pin IoT is a great example of an innovative, Merseyside business allowing customers to track their assets in real-time, and immediately alerting them if an asset is lost or stolen. Currently available in the UK we are excited to see PIN IoT establish themselves on the global stage, representing Merseyside.”
